Despite both him and his daughter being the rightful rulers of Edo, they do little that inspires leadership. More often than not, they too are preyed on by evildoers and generally end up on the receiving end of very unfortunate accidents, even when they have relatively nothing to do with the current story's events. The Lord and Princess are described in the instruction booklet for Goemon's Great Adventure as being just some people who are "born to end up in the wrong place at the wrong time".
The Ruler of Edo makes a minor appearance in this game, where the dreadful Hannya Shogun secretly captures and imprisons him, and then takes on his guise in order to conduct in criminal activities at his leisure.
He reveals his scheme as Goemon and Ebisumaru attempt to return Princess Yuki back home. After escaping from their cell, they find the real Ruler of Edo tied up in the dungeons, who urges them to go rescue the princess and stop the shogun and his army. In the end, the shogun is defeated, father and daughter are reunited, and everything comes back to normal.
The Lord and Princess are seen in the beginning cutscene of the game. As usual, the couple are just minding their own business at Oedo Castle when suddenly a giant peach-shaped airship appears out of nowhere soaring through the sky. Without any warning, the aircraft shoots a giant beam at the castle, and when the blinding light finally fades, the townspeople watch in horror how the castle was... transformed into a western-themed theatrical stage.
Goemon and Ebisumaru are up to their usual antics in Oedo Town, when they hear the news of what happened at the castle and decide to go and investigate. They make their way to the top of the bulding, where they are confronted by a giant monster. After dealing with it, they find the Lord and Princess safe and sound. The Lord gives Goemon a Super Pass in gratitude, with which he is then granted access to the road that leads to the Wise Old Man's house and Zazen Town.
